Hi boxing fans, coaches and boxers:
In the summer of 98 I traveled to Cuba to learn the training methods of the Cuban Boxing Team. Although the technical director of the Canadian team has said "they train harder, that's their secret." That might be part of it, but also "they train correctly". All of their training has purpose. The upright style, the stepping and punching drills, the effortless slipping of punches it all adds up to a team that can not be beat. The Cuban boxers often wearing tattered and sometimes mismatched footwear were methodically put through the carefully thought out drills under the watchful eye of their trainers in the August heat of Havana. This country with a beaten economy lives for sport, especially boxing.
